Students will showcase a variety of pieces from classic musicals like Annie, Bugsy Malone, and Guys and Dolls, as well as more modern favourites such as Two Strangers Carry a Cake (Across New York), Rent, and Hells Kitchen, an exciting new musical by Alicia Keys.
With productions like Fame and Chorus Line delving into the challenges of life on stage, alongside 42nd Street, which celebrates the magic of theatre, New York has served as a muse for writers and creatives throughout the years. Not originally intended to be a theatre, the buildings that comprise the Grand Opera House York officially opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford. Since then it has been owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles and the India Pru Co. Ltd who spent £4,000,000 restoring the theatre to its former glory in 1987.
