York Stage Artistic Director, Nik Briggs, is pleased to announce he will be bringing a new production of Rogers and Hammerstein's brilliant musical to York, to celebrate the show's 60th Anniversary.
This all-time family favourite will be presented with the usual style and energy York Stage are renowned for. A stellar cast will tell the story of Maria and the Captain and their ever changing surroundings in Austria as the Nazi's advance and anschluss becomes inevitable.

Not originally intended to be a theatre, the buildings that comprise the Grand Opera House York officially opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford. Since then it has been owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles and the India Pru Co. Ltd who spent £4,000,000 restoring the theatre to its former glory in 1987.
