The Alexandra, Birmingham
It’s Austria 1938 when enthusiastic nun Maria finds herself sent away from her abbey and thrown into the lives of the von Trapp family. Arriving as a governess, Maria discovers there’s more on her plate than expected, with seven mischievous children and a rather dogmatic Captain von Trapp to contend with.
Undeterred, she brings music, laughter and joy to the house and soon finds that even love is around the corner. However, not all is as it seems and the von Trapp family are thrown into making a decision that will change the course of their lives.
Telling the true story of this world-famous family, this uplifting musical was the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and the title number, The Sound of Music, the show won the hearts of audiences worldwide, winning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.
