The festive charms of The Nutcracker will captivate audiences of all ages. When Clara is gifted a Nutcracker doll who magically comes to life, an enchanting adventure unfolds; a dramatic battle with the Mouse King ensues, and dancing snowflakes fill the stage.

A live orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s splendid scores adds the finishing touch to these spectacular performances, a treat for ballet lovers and newcomers alike.

Following a hugely successful debut in 2024, Mergaliyev Classical Ballet returns to delight audiences with a company of international dancers brought together by Artistic Directors Yassaui and Sophie Mergaliyev.

Not originally intended to be a theatre, the buildings that comprise the Grand Opera House York officially opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford. Since then it has been owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles and the India Pru Co. Ltd who spent £4,000,000 restoring the theatre to its former glory in 1987.
