Ben Gernon’s programme will create an unforgettable atmosphere in Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony at our season’s opener. Elgar’s nostalgic and hugely popular Cello Concerto is played by Andrei Ionita who will bring his sparkling technique and passion to the music. Mozart never actually named his magnificent final symphony after the King of Gods....but you can hear why everyone else did!

To celebrate Finnish Independence Day, BBC Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor, John Storgårds, born in Finland, will celebrate the birthday with us in the Victoria Hall. Finlandia is arguably the most well known of Sibelius’ music. Christian Tetzlaff is the soloist in Elgar’s nostalgic Violin Concerto. Sibelius’ fifth symphony will make a wonderful finale to the birthday!

Birds singing, streams flowing, summer sunshine and a distant rumble of thunder, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony is the sound of a genius relaxing in nature.
