With a glorious history hosting stars of stage and screen including Judy Garland, Gracie Fields, Les Dawson and Charlie Chaplin, today, the Palace delights audiences with large scale musicals, plays, music and comedy acts. Palace Tours are a great way to explore the Grade II listed theatre and hear about its amazing history. Explore the beautiful auditorium and have special access to restricted areas of the building. The tour will be concluded with a Q&A with our Creative Learning tour guide, giving you some time to chat about your favourite stories from the day.

Tours will last approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Meeting point for Tours is The Main Entrance. Please arrive 5 minutes before as late comers may not be admitted.

Routes may change and do, unavoidably, involve a number of stairs. If you have access needs, please do get in touch with the Creative Learning Team before booking on 01612 456 635 or via email: [email protected] so we can best support you with this experience.

Access to restricted areas of the building, including backstage, are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Please note:

Tour tickets must be booked in advance as tickets are not available on the door.

The Palace Theatre of Varieties opened on Whit Monday 1891 and cost its owners the then colossal sum of £40,500. In the late 1970’s the Palace Theatre underwent a major refurbishment and re-opened in 1981 with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar and has since then retained its position as the premier provincial touring venue.
