Opened in 1891 as a music hall, the theatre has been providing live entertainment to the people Manchester for over 130 years, playing host to local legends Gracie Fields and Les Dawson, as well as international stars The Rolling Stones, Judy Garland and Charlie Chaplin.

The Palace is bursting with history and architectural magnificence, and you may even get to hear some spooky ghost stories as you explore the building with our tour team. Take a peek at the ordinarily off-limits areas that only the lucky few get to experience, while our historic Grade II listed opulent interiors and resplendent auditorium are a sight to behold!

Tours will last approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

Tours do not include show ticket and are subject to availability. Routes may change and involve a number of stairs. If you have any access needs, please do get in touch via email [email protected] before booking your place.

The Palace Theatre of Varieties opened on Whit Monday 1891 and cost its owners the then colossal sum of £40,500. In the late 1970’s the Palace Theatre underwent a major refurbishment and re-opened in 1981 with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar and has since then retained its position as the premier provincial touring venue.
