Having swashbuckled our way through a successful run of The Pirates of Penzance in 2022, we swap pirates for peers and enter into the realm of the fantastic for 2023.
Or have we? The Queen of the Fairies sends Strephon, the half-mortal, half-fairy son of Iolanthe into Parliament where he wreaks havoc by means of a fairy spell to make all the peers pass any bills he chooses, including entry dependent on intelligence, rather than class.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s light and humorous pot shot at a 19th century government has a familiar ring to it and translates very well into contemporary events occurring now in our political system.
Although our previous production of Iolanthe was over 10 years ago, nothing much has
changed, it seems, and ‘…peers will be peers and youth will have its fling…’.
Iolanthe is regarded by some as one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s perfect collaborations, therefore we at KASJOG intend to provide our audiences with a performance that is magical!
